You don't have to be good at art
for art to be good for you.
"I quieted my inner bully voice, which years of therapy and step work hadn't touched."
Thirty days of art journaling did what all those years of talking couldn't. You've been overthinking your way through your whole life. This is where the static finally drops and you can hear yourself again.
Static to Signal LIVE
A 30-Day Art Journaling Practice
to quiet your inner critic and find your voice again
“Art is for everybody. I'm proof of that."
— Penny
You are not too much.
You have just been in rooms that were too small for you
We get taught to stay quiet. Take up less space, sit still, don't interrupt. After a while you stop fighting it. You swallow what you actually think, you go along with things, you stop doing the stuff that's good for you, and you tell yourself it's fine.
It isn't fine. Every time you let something slide out of fear, you feel it. Every time you go against your own knowing, you pay for it. I did that for years until my body finally made me stop.
Maybe you think you're too tired for this. You are tired because your energy has been going to managing everyone else's life and reactions and performing fine when you weren't. Put it on the page instead and you'll feel it come back.
What Actually Happens in 30 Days:
You'll Stop Waiting for Permission
"I've gained more tools and have given myself more permission to let my imagination out." - Former Student
Before this, you waited for the right supplies, the right time, for proof that you're creative enough. After this? You just start, because you finally gave yourself permission to be bad at it and let yourself create freely.
Your Inner Critic Gets Quieter
"Before I was hostage to my inner critic, now I'm a bit more friendly with her." - Former Student
The inner critic doesn't disappear but it stops running the show. You learn to make art even when it’s talking, and eventually the critic gets bored and quiets down.
You Show Up Differently
"Before Static to Signal, I was scared to share online and was worried about how I would be perceived. Now I am making videos online, and being myself is better and much easier than being perfect." - JD
When you tell the truth on the page for 30 days, you stop performing and stop curating, and you accept that where you are right now is enough.
"I think that really we all are creative and unique and should try something like this (even though its scary)."
— Devon
Who this IS for
✅ You're tired of living in your head
✅ You need a place for your feelings
✅ You're ready to be honest with yourself
✅ You want to reconnect with the part of you that got conditioned out
✅ You're willing to make ugly art to get there
Who this is NOT for
❌ You want to learn to draw realistically
❌ You're looking for an Instagram-worthy aesthetic
❌ You need everything to be comfortable
❌ You're not ready to tell yourself the truth
"I can't draw a fucking stick figure. It doesn't matter. It truly does not matter. Just do it." — Former student
"You don't have to call yourself an artist to be able to express yourself through art." — Jess
This works even if you haven't made art since elementary school, if you think you don't have a creative bone in your body, if you are scared people will think it's bad, don't have fancy supplies, or don't have much time.
"I couldn't believe some of the art that I created." — JD
"But I Can't Draw"
At first I was a little nervous because I don't consider myself artistic, but I quickly realized it wasn't about making perfect art. It was about being creative and honest with myself. Now I use art journaling as a way to relax, clear my mind, and check in with myself when life gets busy. I feel more creative, less stressed, and more connected to my emotions than I did before. I'd recommend it to anyone, even if they don't think they're artistic."
— Carli
Why Me
I'm Bethanie. I'm a licensed art therapist and I've spent a decade making art with people in addiction recovery, with cancer patients, with older adults, with anyone who'd stopped believing art was for them.
I also need this myself. I got sober, then got sick with an autoimmune disease no one could explain, and the thing that brought me back to myself was making intuitive art every day.
I built Static to Signal from exactly what worked for me and for the hundreds of people I've made art with since.
My autoimmune disease is in remission, and I truly believe it is from making art every day.
It came from getting my feelings out, from sharing, and from telling myself truth.
A note on what this is and isn't: while I am a registered art therapist, this is a creative practice, not therapy or treatment. I'm here as an artist and a guide, not as your clinician. If something surfaces that needs more support, seek professional guidance.
"I grew up believing that to make art you needed a certain level of skill or technique. Through Bethanie, I've learned that art can be literally anything you need it to be. The more you allow yourself to put your inner world onto a canvas, the more your outer world changes."
— Clayton

FAQ

Everyone quoted on this page said that before they started.
-
As long as you've got. Five minutes is fine. The recommended time to settle your nervous system is 20 minutes or more. But making art for five minutes is better than not creating at all.
-
Whatever you have! Pen and paper. Markers. Crayons. Old magazines. Junk mail. The course includes a full supply guide, but you don't need fancy materials.
-
You probably will! Everyone does. The practice isn't about perfection, it's about showing up when you can. This is a practice. Don’t beat yourself up! Just jump back in!
-
No. I changed a lot at once. What I'll say is that stress makes autoimmune symptoms worse, and making art brought my stress down further than anything else I tried, and my disease is in remission. I'm telling you what happened to me, not what will happen to you.
-
No. This is an educational course teaching you art journaling techniques. It's not clinical treatment. If you're in crisis or need therapeutic support, please work with a licensed professional.
"The risk is worth it. Beth is safe and unconditionally supportive. The benefits outweigh the risk. I think you're gonna be surprised."
